Sports massage

Sports Massage

A massage using specific techniques to deal directly with the body’s soft tissue.

It aims to combat and treat sports-related conditions such as a build-up of lactic acid, formation of scar tissue, restricted range of movement as well as speeding up the recovery of some injuries.

Who is it good for?

Anyone who prefers a “no nonsense” approach to their massage! You don’t have to be a sports person to benefit either. Usually the massage is deeper and can occasionally cause some discomfort, but provides great results in dealing with specific problems.

What should I expect?

Your sports therapist will run through a consultation with you and explain the proposed treatment prior to leaving the room to allow you to undress and relax on the massage bed under towels. The massages techniques are usually firmer and deeper than a traditional style of massage, which can be uncomfortable. Obviously you will need to discuss your tolerance levels with the therapist!

What are the benefits?

This style of massage can assist with specific soft tissue injuries as well as part of a training programme to speed up your recovery process. The massage stimulates circulation and blood supply to remove lactic acid, break down scar tissue and promote recovery.
